The paper for this blog was Can sea urchins beat the heat? Sea urchins, thermal tolerance and climate change., which was published on PeerJ on May 18, 2015. This research was done by Elizabeth Sherman. The research was conducted over a three different periods (winter, spring and summer), using different sea urchins for the three different years. She observed two different sea urchins: 1) Diadema antillarium- Long spined urchin and 2) Echinometra lucunter- rock boring urchin. These urchins were placed into a lab environment, where the temperature was changed and the urchins thermal tolerance was recorded in order to observe whether or not the urchins were able to acclimatize to the different temperatures.
